Miles Away is a state of being. Far from everything, close to the essentials, seeking to make a difference.
Mafalda Nicolau de Almeida, a native of Porto, has been living since 2007 in Vila Nova de Foz Côa, organizing projects for the development of the region and promotion of the heritage of the Douro and Côa Valleys. João Luís Baptista, also a native of Porto, has been working as a winemaker in the Douro since 2007. Bárbara Carvalho, a native of Viseu, lives in Vila Nova de Foz Côa since 2010, and in her case it was the archaeology which brought her here.
They have exchanged urban centres for an absolutely rural world, contrary to demographic trends. They created Miles Away with the objective of bringing to visitors an appreciation of the diversity, richness and quality of the heritage of the Douro and Côa Valleys, through a personalised accompaniment.
